During PICNIC '09, Waag Society's Creative Learning Lab and Kennisnet together with several partners organized PICNIC YOUNG.
PICNIC '09 took place from 23 until 25 September 2008, with numerous lectures, seminars and workshops and the latest developments in media, technology, art, science and entertainment.
In 2009, the central theme was creativity, in line with the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. PICNIC YOUNG consisted of two seminars and the Creative Playground.
The main programme were two international seminars for professionals in education. Visitors were inspired by lectures, surprising acts and examples of leading national and international educational concepts.
The two seminars were themed 'Out of the box learning' on learning outside the traditional educational context and 'Connected classroom' on locative games and virtual worlds.
Creative Playground
For pupils between 14 and 18 years of age, workshops were organized, to experiment with creative technology in interactive workshops, given by experts in the field. This Creative Playground was aimed at developing talents, creation and learning to excel by design. Together with partner organisations these workshops provided a challenging programme for young people.
These workshops were categorized within three themes:
Create
(technology in the creative process),
Play
(experience and make games) and
Tell
(create animations, video reports and other media).
Games Atelier is a new educational tool, to be used in secondary education in The Netherlands. Within Games Atelier, pupils can can create, play, share and view their own locative mobile games with GPS equipped mobile phones and an internet application.
Kidz Connect is a program that connects young people in different countries via media art, performance and collaborative creation in virtual worlds.
